The Houses of Our Founders

The Society of Historic American Homes has a special relationship with the following historic museum properties.  We encourage everyone to support and visit these irreplaceable national treasures - not only to learn about their history and about the men and women who lived there, but also about the special challenges and rewards of preserving historic houses.  Each offers a unique view into period architecture, design, decor and lifestyle and of course help tell a part of the founding of the United States of America.  In association with them, the Society is proud and honored to offer special incentives and programs exclusively for Society members.  Start your journey of discovery, with our first partner - George Washington's Mount Vernon!

George Washington's Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon is an American landmark and an enduring tribute to the Father of Our Country.  One of the nation’s most beloved historic sites, Mount Vernon offers a glimpse into 18th-century plantation life through beautiful gardens and grounds, intriguing museum exhibits, and immersive programs honoring George Washington’s life and legacy.

George Washington's Mount Vernon is located about 15 miles south of Washington DC along the banks of the Potomac River. The historic estate includes not only the Mount Vernon Mansion - George and Martha Washington's home - but also a host of colonial era buildings, beautiful gardens, a working distillery and gristmill, and our museum and education center. There's so much more to see here and Society of Historic American Homes members receive discounted admission!
